Artist in Residence: Tori-Jay Mordey

18 Sept – 6 Dec 2020

Exhibition now closed

Contemporary artist and illustrator Tori-Jay Mordey joins us as Artist in Residence, where she is creating new artworks live in the Museum!

Drawing on both her Torres Strait Islander and English heritage, Tori-Jay Mordey’s contemporary illustrations explore themes of family and self-identity through detailed and immersive portraiture. Often using members of her own family as subject matter, Tori-Jay combines stylistic cartoon fantasy with stunning realism to capture the complexities of our inner lives and emotions. Tori-Jay’s artworks traverse multiple mediums, from digital illustration, drawing, painting, printmaking, film and murals. She has also authored and illustrated several children’s books.

Join us from September to December as Tori-Jay Mordey continues to explore her themes of identity when she takes over the Adelaide Street Pavilion as Artist in Residence. Explore the artist’s process first-hand and observe the artist create new artworks within our open studio.

Visit Tori-Jay Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays 12pm-5pm in the Adelaide Street Pavilion.

MoB’s Artist in Residence program is supported by Tim Fairfax AC.
