Artist in Residence Hiromi Tango’s community-led project 花弁 Hanabira (Gentle Petal) has transformed Museum of Brisbane’s Adelaide Street Pavilion into a vibrant sanctuary, inspiring healing and connection. Visitors are invited to create beautiful blooms from upcycled textiles and local materials, then add them to the walls of the gallery to create an abundant garden.
Museum of Brisbane is seeking expressions of interest for volunteers or ‘gardeners’ interested in supporting 花弁 Hanabira (Gentle Petal) over the upcoming summer holidays and beyond.
Roles will be hands-on and varied. Volunteers can select between participating in the following:
Meet-up group sessions for material preparation and ‘garden’ maintenance. Suitable for volunteers who want to work in groups. Mondays and Fridays from 9:30am to 1:00pm.
Engage with visitors, guiding them through flower-making activities; and keep the area tidy and welcoming. Thursdays and Saturdays from 9:45am to 1:00pm.
We are looking for volunteers to support during:
Program start date: beginning of December 2024
Program end date: end of February 2025
Note: The volunteer program will be paused briefly between 23 December 2024 and 5 January 2025.
Material preparation: Mondays and Fridays, 9:30am-1:00pm
Visitor engagement and facilitation: Saturdays and Thursdays, 9:45am-1:00pm
Museum of Brisbane will conduct mandatory induction at the beginning of the volunteer program and ongoing training throughout the program.
Volunteer hours will be rostered based on volunteers’ availability.
The first round of applications closes on 8 December 2024.
Museum of Brisbane is an inclusive and diverse workforce, so encourages people from different backgrounds, cultures, ages, genders, abilities and experiences to apply. This volunteer program is also suitable for a one-off group activity.
Thank you for your interest in volunteering for Hiromi Tango’s community-led project 花弁 Hanabira (Gentle Petal). Museum of Brisbane will be in contact with successful candidates and keep all applications on file for future opportunities.
