During the residency, visitors can see how Anita applies her unique interpretations of the river in three ethereal embroidered artworks that are reminiscent of the sheer, flowing and luminous qualities of water.
Taking over the Adelaide Street Pavilion gallery, Anita will create artworks using delicate materials and intricate techniques, supported by large-scale hoops.
From her workbench, she will experiment with new embroidery motifs and also create a large-scale drawing along the gallery wall.
Informed by keen research and days spent with a mindful eye on the river, Anita’s drawing explores the tidal pathways and natural features that arise along its journey. Visitors are invited to participate in a shared drawing activity and to speak to the artist about her practice.

Having grown up on the volcanic shores of Taribelang Bunda, Gooreng Gooreng, Gurang, and Bailai Country, Anita’s works explore our relationship to the poetic coastal landscape. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally at QAGOMA, Brisbane and Citè International des Arts, Paris. Embracing the emotive qualities of moving-image media and sound, Anita’s artwork is conceived and made on the unceded lands and flowing waters of the Yaggera, Turrabul, Yugambeh, Quandamooka, Taribelang Bunda, Gooreng Gooreng, Gurang, and Bailai people where she lives and swims.
