Michael Zavros

Michael Zavros and daughter Phoebe discuss their decade-long creative partnership – as artist and subject.

Michael Zavros is an acclaimed artist whose paintings of his young family have polarised audiences in recent years. Michael likes that his work is provocative. He enjoys the dialogue they create and the introspection they spark. One recurring subject is his daughter Phoebe, who became his creative partner when she was five. In this episode, Michael and his daughter Phoebe (16) discuss the ups and downs they have navigated over the decade of working together.

About Michael Zavros

MICHAEL ZAVROS is a painter whose life is integral to his art. His work has been recognised with major Australian prizes since he graduated from Brisbane’s Queensland College of Art (1996). Michael has undertaken many international residencies and exhibited in museums throughout Australia, New Zealand, Asia and Europe. He lives on acreage on Brisbane’s outskirts; his family have featured in his paintings and photographs since 2010.

About Wendy Love

WENDY LOVE (host + producer) is a journalist, audio producer, and storyteller who has worked in Australia and the United States. Born in California, Wendy was a reporter and producer for NPR affiliate Houston Public Radio (USA). Her work also aired on American Public Media’s Marketplace. She first came to Australia in 2003 and, in recent years, produced The Art Show for ABC’s Radio National and a blog relating stories of non-profit and social enterprises. Wendy lives in inner Brisbane, the longest place she’s ever called home.
